Greenstock Advocacy Group

Here we go, Greenstock Advocacy Group now has its very own blog. What a wonderful world. Hopefully we will be able to have sustained conversations by means of this forum. I really have no idea if I'm doing this right... but then, that's life, isn't it?

  1. So what are our ideas for conversation topics for our Greenstock forum?

  2. Allison and I went to the Slow Food potluck today, which was fabulous! Talking to some of the townspeople it's clear we definitely need to do more to include them on sustainability programing. For instance, there are currently two separate initiatives- one on campus and on in the community- to invest in zip-cars. Why can't they be combined? Hayden's idea of including the town in Do It In The Dark was excellent, too. Especially when you consider that townspeople have an invested interest in seeing change on campus, since they'll be living with it long after we graduate, we need to find ways to include them in our efforts.
    So we should dialogue about:
    1) Common goals 2) how each side can facilitate the other
    3) frustrations townspeople find in working through students (and vice versa?)
    4) how to overcome those
    5) Let's pick some quantifiable goals, too. Say 20% more real food on campus by (pick a date) and 40% less energy consumption by (pick a date)

We need to start collaborating more with the college's Sustainability board. Christy Chi is the town rep for that.

  3. That sounds great but that means we need to advertise Greenstock to the Davidson Community as well as the vendors at the Farmer's Market. We can send out invitations to a certain extent but we don't know everyone that lives in Davidson. I think by making Greenstock a community event rather than just a college event that it would be a great start.

  4. so i just wrote a really long post and it got erased- frustrating!!
I agree with everything Kristina has said and that we should definitely involve the town in this event. But this means major advertising of Greenstock to the Davidson community - definitely hit the Farmer's Market. We can send out invitations to a certain extent but we should make this a community celebration and summit instead of just Davidson college!
